Devils Lake Fire reaches 1,200 acres

BLY, Ore. – South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership crews are still battling theDevils Lake Fire, located 5 miles southeast of Bly, Ore., which grew to 1,200 acres Tuesday.

A Level 1 Evacuation Notification has been issued to some residents of middle Fishhole Creek Road. Those residents were contacted directly by Klamath County Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel.

Evacuation notifications follow the “Ready, Set, Go!” system. A Level 1 notification means affected residents should be aware they could be asked to leave their homes and get “Ready” to do so. For more information about evacuation levels and procedures, go tohttp://tinyurl.com/EvacuationLevels

The fire is primarily on the Bly Ranger District, Fremont-Winema National Forest, but is moving south into more heavily-timbered terrain protected by Oregon Department of Forestry.

To allow firefighting resources unrestricted access, motorists are asked to avoid traveling in the fire zone, particularly along Forest Road 3752; Forest Road 3790/Fishhole Creek Road; and the 011 crossover road. No closure orders have been issued.

Due to the increased intensity and spread of the fire, a Type 2 Incident Management Team will assume command today. The Northwest 6 team will be briefed this afternoon and take command and control of the firefighting efforts this evening.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the fire zone from noon to 9 p.m. today. Record high temperatures are expected through Thursday, with a chance of thunderstorms moving into the area Friday.

A public information center has been set up at the Bly Ranger District office, 61100 Hwy 140 East. The public is encouraged to visit this location if they have any questions or would like more information about the current status of the firefighting efforts.

South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership is an interagency fire management program that provides comprehensive wildland fire service to south central Oregon and northwest Nevada. The partnership strives to achieve a more efficient, effective and integrated interagency fire management program for all participating agencies on the lands administered and protected by each agency.

Participating agencies include: Fremont-Winema National Forest, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District, Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Crater Lake National Park and state lands protected by the Klamath-Lake District of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
