Northwest Fire Potential Summary
The wildfire environment will continue to worsen over the northwest geographic area. Fire danger, which is already high, will keep rising due to the hot, dry weather settling over the region. General winds tend to be light during hot weather patterns like this but instability in the atmosphere will boost the Haines Index to 5 or 6 with a weak thermal trough developing west of the Cascades this week.
New ignitions or ongoing incidents will display faster growth and become more difficult to control due to the combination of these contributing factors. Isolated lightning will add some additional fire starts to sections of southern Oregon through the weekend. Lightning is likely to spread further north into Oregon but the timing of that is impossible at the moment.
Pay close attention to NWS fire weather forecasts and advisories in your local area.
