Smoke Conditions: http://wasmoke.blogspot.com
Location: Methow Valley Ranger District on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest; 12 miles north of Mazama, WA.
Summary: Firefighters continue to work on contingency lines and roads. Chipping operations continue to remove debris from the line construction operations. Chipping is one component of the suppression repair plan.
A smoke column was visible on Tuesday in a few parts of the fire area. Contributing to the column were high temperatures, low humidity and unstable air.
Also on Tuesday, firefighters secured a containment line along the ridge above Pat Creek. While the possibility of fire spreading in the Pat Creek drainage is low, the area will continue to be monitored by air.
Residents and visitors to the area should be aware that burning continues within the perimeter. Smoke will continue to affect the region at various times until a season-ending weather event fully extinguishes the fire. In some places, the perimeter of the fire will continue to expand until it burns into natural barriers or a past fire.
Weather: A cold front is forecast for this afternoon, with gusts up to 20 mph. Winds will continue through Thursday, with gusts up to 30 mph. Cooler temperatures are expected, but the decrease is not expected to contribute to higher humidity levels
Closures: Fire area closures are in effect and will remain in effect into the fall. Eightmile Creek 5130 Road is closed from West Chewuch 51 Road to Billy Goat Trailhead. This closure includes the Ruffed Grouse, Honeymoon, Nice, Flat, and Buck Lake campgrounds. The Ortell 5220 Road is closed from Cub Pass, at the intersection with the Sweetgrass Butte 5220-100 Road, to the Eightmile 5130 Road. Sweetgrass Butte 5220-100 Road is closed from Cub Pass, at the intersection with Ortell 5220 Road, to Sweetgrass Butte. The entire Falls Creek 5140 Road is closed. We encourage Forest visitors to contact local Ranger District offices for closure information or go to http://tinyurl.com/of5b85dfor a map showing the closure area.
Fire Restrictions: Maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, and use of charcoal briquette barbecues, or other devices that use solid fuel are prohibited across most of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Firewood cutting with a power saw for commercial or personal use are prohibited.
