Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Burning environment conditions are high Thursday mainly from the Cascades westward due to the extreme heat, low humidity and unstable atmosphere. General winds remain fairly light but the overall fire activity picture is focused on flare-ups for existing fires and potential rapid growth for new ignitions. The current weather pattern is conducive to high probability of ignition and poor relative humidity recovery at night which prolongs burning periods. East of the Cascades, low humidity and high fuel loading in fine fuels remain a problem.
Fortunately, lightning fire starts are not expected to be much of a factor due to the dry atmosphere until Sunday and Monday when a greater potential for new ignitions moves into Oregon. The period of high fire danger is expected to continue through the weekend and into next week.
Please review NWS forecasts carefully for fire weather details in your area.
