Northwest Fire Weather Summary
Warming and drying continues today as upper level high pressure gradually builds over the region. At the surface, a thermal trough of low pressure west of the Cascades generated light offshore winds overnight and this morning, which will enhance heating on the west side of the region as well as diminish relative humidity recovery.  The surface winds will give way to onshore flow later today. As an offshore upper level trough transports moisture into the region, a slight chance for thunderstorms returns to southern Oregon late this afternoon and into the night with better chances across southern and eastern Oregon and eastern Washington coming Wednesday and Thursday. Friday holds some threat for thunderstorms across northern Washington, but the models are still unsettled on that potential. Little rain is expected with the thunderstorms.  Check your NWS forecasts and advisories for the latest details for your area.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Light general winds and smoke will tend to moderate fire behavior today, but near record fire danger indices keep most of the geographic area at or above normal risk for significant fires. Dry lightning entering the equation tonight through Fridaycould challenge initial attack resources and brings high risk for development of new large, costly fires primarily to southern and eastern Oregon and southeastern Washington.
