Current Activity on the Miriam Fire:  The warmer weather and lower humidity continue to dry the area increasing the possibility of spot fires as the heavy fuel continues to smolder. There were no control issues. Yesterday, crews and heavy equipment continued to strengthen and improve containment and contingency lines.

Today, firefighters will search and mop-up hot spots and chip fuels along Forest Road (FR) 1207. Chipping of material is progressing at approximately one mile per day.  Heavy equipment will continue operations along FR 1204 and FR 1205 improving these contingency lines by removing logs and woody material to an off-site storage location. On the north flank, fire fighters continue to scout for opportunities to construct containment lines closer to the fire. Structure protection resources remain in place and personnel are monitoring all areas.

Current Activity on the Clear Fork Fire: Yesterday, the fire moved over established retardant lines. Once visibility improved, helicopters dropped water to check the forward movement of the fire. Retardant drops were also made to reestablish holding lines. This fire will be monitored closely with aerial resources.

Weather and Fire Behavior: The forecast to the end of the week continues to be sunny, hot and hazy. Today temperatures will be near 90 degrees with relative humidity down to 19%. Winds will be terrain driven west/southwest 4-7 mph. Fuels have dried from the moisture over the weekend. Fire behavior is anticipated to increase with single and group tree touching. An inversion will moderate the fire behavior.

Closures: A Closure Area is in effect for the Miriam Fire on the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Gifford Pinchot National Forests.  An Emergency Area Closure was been issued for the Clear Fork Fire on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest adjacent to the current closure area associated with the Miriam Fire. Find maps and a list of affected sites at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/6066/45371.
