NEWS  RELEASE : Friday, August 21, 2020

The White River Fire now stands at 500 acres.  Management of the fire transferred at 6 am today from the local Type 3 incident management team to the Type 2 Northwest Interagency Incident Management Team 9 (NWIIMT 9), Incident Commander Brian Goff.  Type 2 teams are called in when the fire becomes more complicated or needs more resources than the local team can provide.  The team’s incident command post is in Tygh Valley.

The fire is located in the Mt Hood National Forest, just south of Forest Road 48, 13 miles SE of Government Camp and 8 miles from Sportsman’s Park.

Today’s plan is to continue establishing line along the east and west flanks of the fire where terrain is difficult and secure existing line. Firefighters will also prepare highway 48 for firing operations, and re-enforce the anchor point and established line.

Today’s weather will be more moderate with SW winds from 6-8 mph, temperatures from 80-85 degrees, and relative humidity of 25-50%.
