Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Fire Activity Update – 8/26/20 

Unless fire activity increases, this will be the last update. 

 

Southwest OR—The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest responded to one fire yesterday, Tuesday, August 25, near Bear Camp Road and Indigo Creek in the Gold Beach Ranger District. The fire was human caused and contained at .01 acre. 

 

We encourage everyone to be very diligent to prevent starting a fire. Even a small fire can grow to become a threat to our forests and communities. While there is some relief from the high temperatures, low humidity persists. Any wind can fan a fire in the dry fuels and EXTREME fire danger in place. 

 

When planning outdoor recreation, camping or hunting, please check the fire prevention requirements where you are going. The rules may be different between land managers and may change. The RRSNF continues to utilize fixed-wing aerial reconnaissance to detect fires early. Engines, handcrews, and a dozer remain available for quick firefighting response. Resources also continue to be shared with partner agencies including the Fremont-Winema National Forest and Central Oregon to assist with ongoing fire incidents. 

 

Year-to-date, the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest has responded to 26 fires with a total of 2.81 acres burned. Three of these fires were caused by lightning, and 24 were human-caused.
