Burdoin & Snyder Canyon update, Wednesday, July 30
While line repair has begun in many areas, fire crews remain focused on protecting control lines and structures, and suppressing any hot spots reported within 200 feet of homes or infrastructure. Interior visible smokes are being evaluated for their threat to containment and responded to as necessary.
Crews are continuing to secure containment lines in the Dixon Creek, Silvas Creek and Klickitat River areas. In other areas, fire personnel are continuing to grid in from the control line up to 200 feet to ensure the fire cannot grow in those areas. Areas along Highway 14 remain in patrol status.
Primary control lines along the fire perimeter and around homes will remain in place. Indirect hand and dozer lines are being repaired in the interior and exterior of the fire area.
Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuation levels for the Snyder Canyon Fire, and management has been returned to the local unit of the Washington Department of Natural Resources. This will be the last update for the Snyder Canyon Fire.
Fire restrictions are in place for Klickitat County, Washington Department of Natural Resources-protected lands and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Open fires are prohibited. Fuels are extremely dry, and just a spark has the potential to ignite a new fire.
WEATHER: A heat advisory is in effect today, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s. Red Flag conditions are expected, with the likelihood of thunderstorms moving into the area this afternoon. Multiple firefighting units are prepared to provide initial attack response for any new fires in the area.
EVACUATIONS and CLOSURES: All evacuation levels for the Snyder Canyon Fire have been lifted. Burdoin Fire evacuation levels have not changed.
