9/3/2016 Rail Fire - Weather Balloon Launch at Unity School

Fire Behavior Analyst on the Rail Fire explains importance of weather forecasting to students of Burnt River School in Unity, Oregon where Fire Camp and ICP are located 

 


 (Below)Fire Behavior Analyst describes the weather measuring device attached to weather balloon and what type of data it collects

Several people stand outside school building.  A large white weather balloon is held at shoulder height while a meteorologist ties it shut with a string.  A yellow shirted firefighter stands nearby holding a measurement device that will also be tied on.Yellow-shirted firefighter holds a white cardboard cylinder that contains a weather measuring device in one hand and a small, flacid red parachute in his other hand.  When the balloon rises high enough to pop, the device will float back to the ground.
