8/4/2017 Devils Lake Fire Update

Fire-lines, hose-lays, and helicopter water-drops helped slow the Devils Lake Fire on Thursday. Despite temperatures in the high 90’s fire crews began the arduous task of mopping up hot spots on some portions of the fire. Night crews found few hot spots within 100 feet of the line on the west and southwest sides and areas of significant heat on the southeastern flank. Weather conditions remain critical for potential aggressive fire behavior and firefighters are still in full suppression mode.

The Incident Management Team also has initial attack responsibilities for any fires that start within the surrounding area.

Temperatures today are expected to be 93 to 96 degrees with Relative Humidity down to 8% to 9% and winds of 20 miles per hour from the west. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 1-9 PM today because of the expected dry, windy conditions.

There will be a community meeting tonight at 6 PM in Bly at the Rural Fire Protection District station, 60800 Highway 140.

Northwest Incident Management Team 6 continues to work closely with Oregon Department of Forestry’s Klamath District the Fremont-Winema National Forest’s Bly Ranger District and to suppress the fire, which is located on public and private land.
