Fires on ODF-protected lands

McCoy Fire
The McCoy Fire was reported burning the morning of August 9 near the top of Bryant Mountain on a mix of private lands protected by ODF's Klamath Unit - Klamath-Lake District, and BLM and USFS lands. The fire was reported that afternoon to be contained at 11.9 acres, and is undergoing mop-up. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Unless the situation changes, this is the final report on this fire.

Miles, Columbus, Snowshoe and Round Top fires
(formerly the South Umpqua Complex/Sugar Pine Fires)

These fires are being managed under unified command by the Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 2 (Incident Commander Doug Turman), Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 1 (Incident Commander Joe Hessel), and Oregon State Fire Marshal's Red Team (Incident Commander Ian Yocum).

Efforts on the Miles Fire are focused on burn-outs to strengthen control lines, with the largest area of concern being the southwest flank of the fire. Elevated weather conditions (gusty afternoon winds and low humidity) could increase fire activity this afternoon, including torching and spotting. Winds could move some of the smoke out of the area, however smoke from other nearby fires may continue to impact air quality, causing unhealthy to very unhealthy conditions.

Mop-up continues on the Snow Shoe Fire, patrol and mop-up are ongoing on the Columbus Fire, and the Round Top Fireremains in patrol status.
