8/17/2020 Jungle Creek Fire Update

Contact: Robin DeMario, 509-664-9292 or the Naches Ranger District, 509-653-1401 during business hours
A 40-acre fire is burning in the Jungle Creek area of the Naches Ranger District in the Little Naches River drainage. Smoke from the fire is visible to I-90 travelers and the communities of Naches, Yakima, Ellensburg, and Cle Elum, WA. The fire is burning in heavy timber and the cause is under investigation.

Due to the fire’s proximity to dispersed camping areas and developed campgrounds, including Kaner Flat and Crow Creek campgrounds, these recreation sites are being evacuated for public safety. Forest employees and local county law enforcement officers are contacting campers and recreationists located along Road #1900, between spur roads #1902 and #1903, requesting they leave the area. They are not in immediate danger; this is a safety precaution due to the potential for the fire to grow.

Resources assigned to the Jungle Creek Fire include one 20-person crew, two engines, two helicopters, an air attack plane, and three small single engine air tankers. Additional resources have been ordered including two hand crews, two engines, a lead plane, two airtankers, and one bulldozer.

Recreationists are asked not to travel in the Road #1900 area above the junction with State Route 410 and Little Naches Road #1900.

Updates will be posted to the Forest Facebook page at https://bit.ly/2Y6mGU8
