Yesterday and Overnight: Yesterday’s cooler weather brought some light precipitation into the area, particularly along the west side of the fire around Goose Prairie. This light precipitation and cooler weather helped decrease fire activity allowing for greater success of fire suppression efforts and enforcing structure protection activities. Along the northwest flank of the fire, firefighters engaged in fire suppression efforts as fire activity picked up. Protection measures continued to be implemented in and around the communities of Cliffdell, Goose Prairie, and Bumping Lake. On the northeast flank of the fire, containment lines continue to hold and crews focused on backhauling equipment staged out in these areas. Firefighters working on the southern portion of the fire patrolled and monitored containment lines along road systems.
Today: Weather is forecast for wetting rains with the highest amount of precipitation predicted on the west side of the fire. Firefighters will continue to patrol and reassess structure protection as needed within the communities of Cliffdell, Goose Prairie, and Bumping Lake. With the forecast of favorable conditions, crews will work on reinforcing the containment line northwest of the Cliffdell area. Due to the increased fire activity along the northern end of Bumping River road yesterday, fire officials are restricting access to Bumping River road to ensure safety of fire personnel and the public. Throughout the contained areas of the fire, crews will patrol and monitor fire behavior. In addition, firefighters will continue to monitor fire activity within the wilderness areas (American Ridge and southwest flank of the fire).
Evacuations: LEVEL 2: Bumping River Road corridor from north to south; Highway 410 corridor from Salmon Cove to Pinecliff; LEVEL 1: Highway 410 corridor from Pinecliff to the junction of U.S. Route 12, and from U.S. 12 at Hwy 410 west to Tieton Reservoir Rd. Campfires remain prohibited on Washington Dept. of Natural Resources (WADNR) lands. An area closure for O-W NF lands remains in effect. More information at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/closures/7775/. As of September 16th, WA DNR managed lands outside the fire area are open.
