WILEY CREEK FIRE CONTAINMENT INCREASES BY 10%

Sweet Home, Ore.— The Wiley Creek Fire lines are staying in the 245-acre footprint. Relative humidity rose to 50% across the fire, allowing for a slight natural reduction in fire behavior. Containment rose to 40 % today as crews continued to make progress with the mop-up operations.

Firefighters had another hot day on the line, with temperatures near 100 degrees and humidity dipping near 20%. The firefighters continue to strengthen the constructed lines which has resulted in evacuation levels decreasing for areas surrounding the fire. Level 2(Be Set) have dropped to Level 1 (Be Ready), and former Level 1 evacuation levels have been released. For more information on evacuations, visit https://www.linnsheriff.org/. No campfires of any kind are allowed on the Willamette National Forest

Resources assigned to the fire on Wednesday include five crews, six engines, five water tenders, eight tree fallers, as well as various bulldozers and logging equipment. Personnel continues to slowly decrease, and now sits at 235, as the fire gradually downsizes. These adjustments directly reflect the work that firefighters have accomplished on this incident.

An Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service will remain in place until tonight at 11:00 p.m. Smoke from the Lookout Fire continues to drift west into Sweet Home and nearby communities. Smoke drift maps and air quality information is always available on https://fire.airnow.gov/.
