Draw Fire: Chiloquin, OR_ June 8, 2016
  • The Draw fire is a lightning caused fire, twenty miles northeast of Chiloquin and is currently 497 acres. (this decrease in acreage was determined after the perimeter of the fire was mapped yesterday evening)
  • With high temperatures and erratic winds the firefighters must deal with a lot of conditions that require them to be extra cautious as they continue to build improve containment lines around the fire. Today’s weather is calling for an increase in wind gusts during the early afternoon that will test the control line.
  • Last night crews monitored for spot fires in areas with numerous hazard trees. In other areas with less risk to firefighters, they were able to continue to engage in line preparation for dayshift operations.
  • The fire is in the Telephone Draw area. It is six and a half miles SW of Rocky Ford Campground and six miles NW from the Head of the River Campground.
  • Campgrounds and roads remain open, however avoiding the area around the fire is advised. The area includes FS roads 4584, 4582, 4990 and the Buck Horn Springs Camp area.
  • In response to the increased moisture this past winter, the vegetation has grown at a rapid rate. This growth combined with the last few months of unusually warm temperatures has created available fuels for fire. The area consists of large ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine and ceanothus.
  • Before recreating in the forests and on your public lands please go to the following website and read the precautions for Adjective Class: Moderate Industrial Fire Precaution Level 1. http://www.scofmp.org/ifpl.html
  • We would like to caution travelers on Oregon State Hwy. 97 near the Silver Lake Hwy. to slow down as traffic has increased in the area due to fire suppression efforts.
