Rail Fire Incident Commander Shawn Sheldon reported today
that an outbuilding has been burned near the Table Mountain Lookout. “The
lookout itself is fine,” said Sheldon. “We had wrapped it with reflective
aluminum sheets, and it withstood the flames. But an outhouse in disuse was
destroyed, and a three-sided storage structure was damaged.” The working outhouse
at the parking lot, which had also been wrapped in aluminum, remains intact.
Embers blown by strong winds from the northwest
started leap-frogging spot fires to the southeast of the main fire, and they quickly
reached the top of Table Rock.
The weather forecast for tonight calls for even
stronger winds from the west-northwest, gusting to 35 mph, with relative
humidity remaining very low.
