900, near the Forest’s northern border -
21 acres, 100% contained; Broadway Fire: Located south of Forest Road 22,
near Peterson Lava - 5 acres, 100% contained;
Fox Fire: Located approximately 3 miles
northwest of the North Fork Wilderness Study Area, near Forest Road 4230 and 17
miles east of Post, Oregon - 9,978
acres, 54% contained; Lava
Fire: Located
near the junction of Forest Roads 22 and 4210, near the northwest corner of Big
Summit Prairie - 191 acres, 95% contained.
Current
Situation: Firefighters made good progress on the
Lava Fire yesterday, and expect to have it fully contained by end of shift
today. On the north side of the Fox Fire
crews and engines continued to build and strengthen line, mopping up 100 feet
inside the lines. On the west side of the Fox Fire, dozer lines were
established in the mixed conifer to contain fire spread. Crews and engines worked the stringers along
the North Fork of the Crooked River, mopping up the underburn. Helicopters dropped water on the fire front
all day yesterday, and will continue today.
Although the cooler weather and additional resources
have allowed for good containment progress on the Fox Fire, the potential for
interior tree torching that can cause spot fires outside the line perimeter is
a concern as the temperature increases and humidity levels go down.
Closures: A Closure
Order is in effect, but has been reduced in size (for the full closure order
and map, visit Inciweb at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3972/); and all open
fires are now prohibited on the Prineville District of BLM, Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests,
and the Crooked River National Grasslands, except in designated campgrounds. For more information, visit http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/centraloregon/home/?cid_=fsbdev3_035880.
