Road and Area Closures Implemented for Sunflower Fire
Pendleton, Oregon: Forest Officials have implemented road and area closures in the vicinity of the Sunflower Fire, 10 miles north of Monument Oregon.
The lightning caused wildfire has burned 1,200 acres in the Sunflower Flat and Turner Mountain area on the Heppner Ranger District. The fire actively burned, pushed by northwest winds, throughout the early morning. It is burning in steep rocky terrain in timber mixed with open grasslands. The fire is 15% contained
Area and road closures have been implemented in the vicinity of the fire for firefighter and public safety concerns. The closure includes portions of Forest Roads 2128, 22, 23 which serve as the boundary for the area closure. IC Mike Wilde and his Western Great Basin Type 2 Incident Management Team will take over fire suppression and logistical operations this evening. Fire Camp is located at the Morrow County OHV Park. Over 100 personnel are currently supporting this fire.
