7/15/2014 7:00 PM Shaniko Butte Fire Evening Update

Fire Update
July 15, 2014 7:00pm

On Monday Morning, July 14th, on the Shaniko Butte Fire, a home was lost. Firefighters had lined the area around the home and called in structure protection on Sunday after the fire was detected and estimated at 30 acres. After the winds subsided over night and moisture levels recovered the fire behavior reduced significantly. Monday morning around 11am the winds picked up with gusts to 12 mph out of the North and two columns stood straight up. Within minutes the columns had laid over and the fire crossed three contingency lines and consumed the residence.

We have created an email address for fire information, shaniko.butte@gmail.com. We will send updates via this email address and can be reached here. Our office line is (541) 553-8190. We can also be followed on Facebook via CTWS – Fire Management.

Oregon Incident Management Team #1 is transitioning into fire operations and will assume control of the incident at 6:00am Wednesday, July 16. Ross Williams is Incident Commander.
