2015 Northwest Fire Statistics to Date

Since
June 1st, approximately 161,284 acres were affected by wildfire in
the Northwest (NW):
o
79,706
acres in Oregon and 81,578 acres in Washington.
·
There
were a total of 2,178 reported fires in the NW Geographic Area:
o
1,226
in Oregon (human-caused 536, lightning-caused 690)
o
952
in Washington (human-caused 692, lightning-caused 260)
·
There
were 49 fires meeting large fire* criteria:
19 in Oregon and 30 in Washington.
·
NW
Incident Management Teams (National Interagency Management Organization, Type 1
&Type 2) mobilized 17 times.
·
The
NW reached Preparedness Level 4 (PL4) on July 4th, earlier than any
other prior year. Previously, the earliest observed PL4 occurred July 12, 2008.
·
To
date, a total of 47,240 lightning strikes have been recorded. The largest number of strikes occurring in
one day was 6,469 (7/9).
·
In
Oregon, the largest fire/complex is the Corner Creek for a total of 29,657
acres.
·
The
largest fire/complex in Washington was the Douglas County Complex at 22,337
acres.
·
The
estimated total firefighting cost to date exceeds $86,343,221; this includes $49,316,539
in Oregon and $37,026,682 in Washington.
·
During
peak fire activity, over 3,300 firefighters and support personnel were actively
working on NW fires.
*To be considered a “large fire”, a wildfire must be at
least 100 acres in timber or 300 acres in grass or brush.
