Cable Crossing Fire Morning Update

Firefighters made good progress overnight on the Cable Crossing Fire, located east of Glide near Highway 138 East, MP 23, but still have a lot of work ahead of them.  Crews were able to complete fire trail around about 90% of the fire last night despite fairly active fire behavior due to dry forest fuels and strong winds.  As of this morning, fire officials say that the fire is 10% contained.

At this time, the fire is estimated at 270 acres. Today, firefighters will work to complete fire trail around the Cable Crossing Fire and work to install hose lays around the fire.

Firefighting resources assigned to the Cable Crossing Fire today include:

Aviation Resources:  two type 1 helicopters, three type 2 helicopters, one type 3 helicopter, and a fixed wing observation aircraft.  Three single engine air tankers (SEAT's) are also available at the Roseburg Airport and will be used if needed.

Ground Resources totaling approximately 180 firefighters will work the fire today, which include: five water tenders, five engines, seven 20 person hand crews, four fallers, two dozers, and various overhead positions.

Safety for firefighters and the general public remains the number one priority.  Due to heavy fire traffic in the area along with hazard trees which need to be removed near the fire along Highway 138 East, ODOT still has the highway closed near the fire area.  Fire crews are working with ODOT to minimize the hazards along the highway before it is reopened for non-fire traffic.  For more information about the Highway 138 East closure, visit www.tripcheck.com<http://www.tripcheck.com>.

Fire officials with DFPA remind the public that hot and dry weather conditions through at least the weekend will give the potential for new fires to easily start and quickly spread.  The general public and industrial operators are asked to follow fire restrictions that are currently in place to help prevent new wildfires.  For more information about public or industrial fire restrictions on DFPA protected land, visit www.dfpa.net<http://www.dfpa.net> or call 541-672-0379.
