The West Fork fire is burning
on the Malheur National Forest, less than a mile south of private land.
It is 764 acres and 15% contained. It is in an area burned in 2006 by the Thorn Fire, which was part of the
Shake Table Complex of fires. It is burning in extremely steep terrain
with many snags. A primary objective is to keep the fire from spreading
north onto private land.
Bulldozers
and fire crews are working to establish control lines up the flanks of
the fire. This week's rain showers have slowed the spread of the fire.
More rain is expected through the weekend.
A
closure is in effect for Forest Road 2150 from the junction with Forest
Road 2150-070 west to the Aldrich Lookout. This is to protect the
public and firefighters.
