County Line 2 Fire
Daily Update forSaturday, August 22, 2015 @ 0800
The Oregon Incident Management Team #1 (Shawn Sheldon, IC) continues to manage the County Line 2 Fire. Incident Commander, Shawn Sheldon reminds everyone, “The number one County Line 2 Fire Incident Objective is firefighter and public safety. Always be aware of your surroundings and
monitor any actions that could cause a fire.”
Crews worked diligently yesterday and last night to slowly burn towards the edge of the fire on the north and south sides in Shitike Creek Drainage. This will strengthen lines and assist in restricting the fire to the direction it must go to be contained in this drainage.
Tomorrow’s prevailing winds could attempt to send the fire in the direction of Seekseequa Creek Drainage; as winds will be blowing over unburned fuels. If this were to happen there is a possibility that the fire could then break through where there are no lines. This would cause the fire to head south through the Seekseequa Creek Drainage and cut east; back towards residences.
The northeast section of the fire looks good and crews were able to hold lines and catch a few spots in that area yesterday.
Several buildings of historical significance were wrapped in protective coverings at Peters’s Pasture and at the Shitike Butte Lookout.
Nationally there are a total of 250 active fires which has burned 2,472,286 acres. These fires are currently being supported by 680 crews, 2,001 engines and 210 helicopters for a total of
32,255 personnel.
Winds for today will still be gusting 20 mph in the higher areas; relative humidity is predicted to be in the mid teens with temperatures in the low 80s. Another dry, hot day with erratic winds dictates one more “heads-up” day for firefighters, Sunday is predicted to be even hotter.
