Kaniksu Complex—Tower Fire

There will be a community meeting Friday night, Aug. 28, 7:30 p.m., at the Camas Center, 1981 Le Clerc Rd. in Cusick, Wash. Fire managers will discuss the current fire situation and future plans.
There will be a community meeting Saturday night, Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m., at the Priest Lake Elementary School, 28047 ID-57, Priest River, Idaho. Fire managers will discuss the current fire situation and future plans.
Update: Thursday’s weather on the Tower Fire was about as forecast. However, the Red Flag Warning did not come to pass, primarily because relative humidities were a bit higher than expected.
On the southwest corner of the fire, south of Brown’s Lake, for the second day in a row, the morning showed no spot fires from the previous night’s activity. Firefighters and their military counterparts spent the day strengthening the dozer line from Brown’s Lake south.
North of there, from the west end of Brown’s Lake up the 100 Road, military forces did the all-important mop-up work, while a hot shot crew did some burn outs to strengthen the portion of the line along the Cee Cee Ah Creek Road.
On the northeast end of the fire, crews worked hard to strengthen lines that include the Squaw Valley Road. They burned out pockets of green fuels to create wider black line that better resists fire movement.
