Carpenter Road Fire Update
A High Wind Warning is in effect from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM with expected wind gusts up to 60 MPH. A Red Flag Warning will also be in effect from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM today.
Last night crews worked diligently to prepare and re-enforce existing fire line around the entire incident in anticipation of todays increased wind over the fire. Firefighters received extensive information at this morning’s briefing about the hazards associated with today’s weather forecast.
Crews in the north section of the fire will continue with line construction along the northeastern portion and will continue to look for safe opportunities to construct fire line around the north front. Firefighters along the northwestern edge will be doing the same thing, and has safety allows will work to construct new fire line to the north.
Crews assigned to the southern portion of the fire are tasked with holding and improving existing fire lines. While the western edge of the fire remains very quiet, firefighters remain in the area patrolling and mopping up around structures. Aircraft operations are expected to be limited today due to the hazardous weather that is anticipated to move through the area.
The Carpenter Road Fire is estimated at 59,828 acres and 20% contained. The containment decreased due to fire growth along the northern edge of the fire.
Due to expected high winds and weakened trees, the public should stay out of the area during this wind event. Hazard trees, overhead hazards, and gas and power line issues can be prevalent. In order to mitigate risks to the public and their property it is encouraged to be vigilant about personal safety.
