CORRECTED Central Oregon Fire Update

Central Oregon – After a busy day and night of lightning, firefighters are engaging on a range of small to medium sized fires across Central Oregon.

The Cabin Lake fire, located 4 miles northeast of Cabin Lake, near FS road 18, in Lake County   remains the largest fire coming from the lightning. It  is approximately 70 acres.  Containment lines around the fire held through the evening; however, additional crews (2-20 person crews) and 2 engines are being added to the 3 engines and 10-person crew on the fire in order to strengthen the lines.

The Bridge 99 fire, located off of FS Road 1490, near Camp Sherman is also receiving additional resources today.  The fire is approximately 2 acres, but is in steep terrain in the Green Ridge area of the Sisters Ranger District.  A local Type 3 team is managing the fire.  FS Road 1270 is being closed and campers in Lower Bridge Campground and Pioneer Ford campground are being asked to relocate, though the fire is not currently threatening those campgrounds.  The public is being asked to stay out of the area if possible.

The Maury Mountains, near Prineville, had many small fires reported and resources, engines and crews, are responding to these fires.  The Lookout Mountain also near Prineville had a number of fires reported and a 20-person crew is responding to the largest of those fires.

Few areas in Central Oregon were left unaffected by the lightning, which totaled approximately 3400 strikes by the end of the day.

Though more lightning is not expected at this time, initial attack resources will continue to respond to reports of new fires as well as patrol areas for new starts from the lightning.
