Little burn out was accomplished yesterday due to damp conditions. Yesterday’s air quality remained good for the forecast area throughout the day.
Today, firing crews will continue to look for burn windows to strengthen lines on the perimeter west of Oakridge. The smoke from the burnout operation is forecast to disperse to the south and southwest away from Oakridge and Westfir.
Over the next few days, the incoming dry air mass, east winds and high instability will result in better burnout opportunities. We also anticipate the fire which is smoldering at this point to become more active and clean up interior unburned islands. In anticipation of more burning activity, an additional smoke monitor will be placed at the school complex in upper Oakridge today.
