The Yellow Point Fire burning 25 miles west of Cottage Grove is 100-150 acres in size and burning on private forestland and Bureau of Land Management land.
Firefighting resources deployed by the Oregon Department of Forestry include: fire engines, water tenders, hand crews and helicopters.
Reported Friday evening, the fire is burning in an area that will be a challenge for use of bulldozers. Wind has caused spotting in front of the main fire. Given the current fire behavior and the forecast for high temperatures and east winds, the fire is expected to grow in size.
Cause is under investigation.
