Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 2 (PNW2), Chris Schulte, Incident Commander, is in
command of the Wolverine, Goode, and Blankenship Fires.
The smoke inversion lifted yesterday on the Wolverine Fire, allowing helicopters to slow fire spread
with water-bucket drops. Success of the water drops was aided by natural features such as rocky
outcroppings as well as less continuous fuels. Much of this work occurred in the Bridal Veil Creek
drainage on the north side of the fire and to the south in Pyramid Creek. Fire crews scouted locations
and are preparing strategies to attack the fire in these areas as more fire crews become available.
Firefighters established structure protection in Holden and are working to establish a containment
line surrounding the community. Rocks and fire debris continue to fall on Forest Road 8301 from
Lucerne to Holden. Keeping the road open remains a challenge for firefighters. Mop up and patrol
continues in the Lucerne area. Patrols also continue to protect structures and campgrounds along
the Lake Chelan in the vicinity of the fire. Fuel breaks are also being strengthened in the Stehekin
area.
Crews and bulldozers are re-establishing old firelines along the Shady Pass Road (Forest Road 5900)
and down a ridgeline to Lake Chelan. These are contingency lines in the event the fire burns south
toward 25 Mile Camp.
Monitoring of the Blankenship Fire showed little fire activity yesterday. The fire has not crossed the
south fork of Agnes Creek.
PNW2 is also now managing the Goode Fire within North Cascades National Park, approximately 18
miles northwest of the Wolverine Fire. Smokejumpers are working to pinch the fire off on its
southern flank. Firelines on the north, east, and west sides have been tied into rocky ridgetops and a
glacier.
Expected Fire Behavior: The Wolverine Fire will continue to move south along Lake Chelan out of
Pyramid Creek towards Graham Harbor, west up Railroad Creek drainage, and north out of Bridal Veil Creek. The Goode Fire will continue to burn south and down Park Creek.
Weather: A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until this evening at 9:00 p.m. due to gusty
northwest winds and low relative humidity along lower elevations of the fire area. Gusty
northwest winds will impact portions of the fire along the shore of Lake Chelan as well as higher
peaks and ridges.
Evacuations/Closure Information: Level 3 evacuations are still in effect for Holden Village, Lucerne,Domke Lake, Riddle and Lightning Creek. Domke Lake, Lucerne and Refrigerator Harbor
campgrounds are closed until further notice.
The Shady Pass Road (5900) is now closed due to heavy fire equipment traffic. The closure begins at the junction with Slide Ridge Road and continues over Shady Pass to the Entiat River Road. The
Big Hill Road is closed from Shady Pass to the Big Hill Trailhead. Snowberry Campground remains
open.
All major roads and businesses in surrounding communities remain open and ready for business.
Join us for a community meeting tonight, Wednesday, August 5th at 7 p.m. at the Chelan Middle/High School where fire personnel will give fire updates and answer questions.
