8/8/2015 Paradise Fire Update

On Friday, fire officials flew the Paradise Fire and observed pockets of unburned fuel smoking within the perimeter, smoke was heaviest near Bob Creek. Crews continued work on the sprinkler system being installed to increase the humidity levels near the western fire perimeter. Helicopters transported crews to and from the fireline and assisted with bucket drops as needed. Crews were pulled off the fireline around 1500 due to weather the helicopter observed moving towards the fire.

The forecasted weather for rain has moderated to a slight chance of rain through Tuesday. Depending on the weather, crews may be unable to fly into the fireline or may have to disengage if unsafe conditions arise.

The only Olympic National Park closure associated with the Paradise Fire is the Queets River trail east of the Spruce Bottom campsite.

Although smoke is a concern to many, the fire continues to burn in an area that is not immediately threatening life or property.

Fires are not permitted in the backcountry area of Olympic National Park, including coastal areas. Campfires are only allowed in established front-country campgrounds in metal campfire rings.
