On Thursday, fire personnel successfully inserted all the necessary equipment for the sprinkler system being installed near the western edge of the fire. Most of the system is in place and setup. Once the sprinkler system is completed it will be utilized to increase the humidity levels near the fire perimeter. The Washington Department of Natural Resources Type 2 helicopter continued bucket drops to the fire east of Bob Creek. Interior pockets of unburned fuels were actively burning on Thursday but no perimeter growth was observed.
Today's weather is forecasted to be warm and clear which will allow helicopter operations to continue. Crews will patrol the southern and western perimeters and continue to install the sprinkler system with the assistance of the Olympic National Park's Engine 701 crew.
Due to the long duration of this fire, overlapping transitions amongst fire personnel are extremely important to provide continuity of knowledge and operations. Today will mark another transitional day with the Incident Commander Trainee, Operations Section Chief, and Initial Attack crews.
Although smoke is a concern to many, the fire continues to burn in an area that is not immediately threatening life or property.
Fires are not permitted in the backcountry area of Olympic National Park, including coastal areas. Campfires are only allowed in established frontcountry campgrounds in metal campfire rings.
