The North Boulder 2 fire continues to burn in heavy timber and dead and down fuels. The fire is located approximately 3 ½ miles Southwest of Orient, WA.
Yesterday’s Fire Activity: Fire continued to slowly back towards containment lines with isolated torching. Islands of unburned fuel remain inside of the fire perimeter.
Operations Report: Firefighters continue to patrol and safely fortify the completed direct line and ensure the perimeter is secure. With so many fire weakened snags between the fire perimeter and the few unburned islands that remain across the fire, it is unsafe to send crews in to suppress fire burning well within its boundaries.
Weather: Cooler temperatures and higher Relative Humidity (RH) can be expected. Fire potential will be moderate. Many of the unburned islands and fingers under the canopies will remain a potential for ignition. Isolated torching is possible where scorched ladder fuels occur above any heat. Dead and damaged trees will continue to burn through and become a hazard.
Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL): The remainder of the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) zones in NE Washington will be moving to an IFPL III starting this Wednesday, August 5th. That means that the Colville National Forest is now fully in IFPL III due to very high fire danger and this prohibits the use of power saws on the Forest.
