Control of the
Antilon Lake Fire will be turned over to local
firefighters this evening and the low-level evacuations of 15 homes will be lifted this afternoon.
Commanders expect the fire, in its fifth
day, will be 90 percent contained this evening and will hand over control
to local Forest Service and Department of Natural Resources crews Wednesday morning. The Chelan County
Sheriff’s Office plans to lift Level 1
evacuation orders for 15 homes in the area
this afternoon.
Forest Service
roads closed due to firefighting operations will reopen Wednesday morning, as well.
Those in the area
are advised the fire may continue to put out
smoke for the next few days. Those hot spots are in steep, remote
areas well within the fire’s interior that are prohibitive to send firefighters into. The Type 4 incident
command with a crew of some 30
firefighters will continue to monitor the fire.
After more accurate mapping,
size of the fire has been reduced to 315 acres of Forest Service and DNR
protected property.
The Type 3
Interagency Incident Management Team that coordinated
firefighting efforts since Saturday plans to leave Wednesday afternoon. Resources
are being demobilized to home units for standby duty or assignment to
other wildfires currently burning in
the Northwest.
The fire was started by an equipment failure around 8 p.m. Friday, July 29. That investigation is ongoing.
Much of area previously burned in the 2002 Deer Point fire. Those areas were helpful to building containment.
No injuries have
been reported and
no structures have
been damaged.
Given the dry conditions
and hot temperatures, remember to be cautious and vigilant when working or
playing outdoors.
