Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Fire danger indices are expected to hold steady on Saturday then fall on Sunday as a cold front begins to bring rain to the region. Temperatures will drop 20 degrees or more by Monday and ample rain will soak much of the west side. Snow will fall above 5500 to 6000 feet by Monday. The cool, moist air behind the cold front will drop ERC values well below average next week which will limit new ignitions and effectively end the potential for new large fires in 2017.
Ongoing incidents may continue to see growth due to the dry air lingering over the area on Saturday but the wet weather beginning Sunday will put an end to growth potential for the time being. Incident management teams are urged to be ready for the dramatic weather change toward colder, wetter weather next week.
