Kelsey Fire - Size: 527 acres Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning
Starting today Northwest Incident Management Team 7 will be managing both the Kelsey and Jones Fires.
Because of the increased traffic from firefighting efforts, the public is advised to use caution while driving along Highway 58 from Dexter to Oakridge.
Yesterday’s Activity – A Pacific storm front moved into the area bringing cool and wet conditions. As a result, there was minimal fire behavior and spread yesterday. On the Jones Fire plans for the repair of impacts from the suppression efforts are being finalized. Crews continued to remove fire hose from contained sections of fireline on the west, north, and east flanks. Indirect fireline construction continued on FR 18 and FR 1839 to the east, and south on FR 1825 to contain the slopover in the Marine drainage on the southeast corner. Crews on the Kelsey Fire worked to further secure the anchor point on the northwest portion of the fire and construct direct fireline down Bunchgrass Ridge. Prior to the wetter weather, air resources were used to limit the movement of active fire on Bunchgrass Ridge above the Highway 58 corridor.
Today’s Operations – On the Jones Fire crews will continue to patrol contained portions of fireline and prepare FR 18, FR 1839 and FR 1825 for use as indirect firelines should the weather warm back up and the fire becomes more active later in the season. On the Kelsey Fire firefighters will continue to work to the east down Bunchgrass Ridge.
Weather and Fire Behavior – Cool and unsettled weather is expected for much of the week as a series of Pacific storms pass through the region. Rainfall amounts throughout the week are expected to exceed one inch, with some areas receiving between 2 and 3 inches of rain. Fire behavior is expected to decrease significantly with the wetting rains and lower temperatures.
