Despite the few days of warming and drying this week, area fires remain relatively quiet and firefighters have made tremendous strides in completing suppression repair. With this success, and more cold wet weather in the forecast, many fires are transitioning back to local units or smaller type 3 teams. As a result of these factors, the region is currently at PL 3, but that is likely to decrease to 2 in the next 10 days. The big emphasis for crews is post fire repair and recovery. On the operational side this means repairing areas damaged by fire to prevent risks such as landslides. It is important to stress all forces are fully engaged and dedicated to protect their communities in post fire impacted areas. An important example of this is the series of public meetings taking place tonight through Saturday, in communities impacted by the Chetco Bar Fire. These hour long public meetings will discuss the history of the response effort and future restoration plans. The meetings will be tonight at Brookings; Friday at Agness and Gold Beach; and Saturday at Cave Junction. Details can be found on the Incident’s web page: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5385/ As a final safety note, local hunting season is upon us, be sure to stay alert as more of the public is in your work area.
