9/4/2017 Eagle Creek Fire Update

Eagle Creek Fire was less active overnight than the previous night and is now an estimated 3200 acres. It is holding at the same position as last night, roughly a quarter mile from the town of Cascade Locks.

Structure protection remains in place. Evacuation levels remain the same as yesterday:

• Level 3 Evacuations: 283 structures, including 15 businesses, near Cascade Locks.
• Level 2 Evacuations: 118 structures, including 10 businesses.
• Level 1 Evacuations: 200 structures, including 4 businesses.

The fire moved closer to Eagle Creek Trailhead within the Eagle Creek drainage and over Buck Point, towards the historic Eagle Creek Campground.

A Multnomah County structural task force is working to protect the historic structures in the Eagle Creek Day Use Area that include a community kitchen, trail register, and stone ovens built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Crews put sprinklers in place on a suspension bridge that runs across Eagle Creek.

The priorities are structure and private land protection around the town of Cascade Locks, protection of historic structures near Eagle Creek Day Use site and Campground, and protection of communities to the west including Dodson and Warrendale. Fire engines also patrolled the Historic Columbia River Highway, now a State Trail used as a bike/walk path.

I-84 remains open but travelers should check tripcheck.org before heading out. Exit 41, the exit for Eagle Creek day use site and campground, is closed.
