Northwest Fire Potential Summary
A thermal trough will continue to bring hot, dry and unstable burning conditions from the Cascade Crest westward for Oregon and Washington today. These conditions have a history of resulting in significant flare-ups for ongoing incidents and rapid growth of new fires. Thunderstorms are possible over sections of Southern Oregon today expanding northward and eastward on Wednesday and Thursday. Storms could bring heavy local rain showers by Thursday and Friday as they move across the region. Despite that, fire starts are still possible and will challenge initial attack.
Expect moderating burning conditions and fire danger as temperatures fall and humidity rises beginning on Thursday and Friday. This will prove to be a welcome respite from the severe burning conditions experienced over the Labor Day weekend. However, this is just a respite and not a season-ending event.
