9/10/2017 Diamond Creek Fire

Today:  The firefighting effort has been beefed up with the addition of four engines, four dozers, a timber cutting feller-buncher and a timber moving forwarder.  Dozers working with fallers in Black Pine Basin will look to clean up the 600 road. The Goat Peak fire lookout and outhouse will be wrapped with flame resistant material.  Hand-line construction and road brushing will continue in the vicinity of Mazama.  Helicopters are available for bucket drops as fire behavior dictates.

Weather: Cooler temperatures and higher humidity are forecasted today after the passage of a cold front on SaturdaySunday’s temperatures will be around 70 degrees with humidity near 20 percent.  Light winds will be from the west.  Temperatures should increase into Monday and Tuesday before another chance of moisture on Thursday.

Smoke:  A clear sky with good visibility is on tap for Sunday. For smoke conditions and more information, visit wasmoke.blogspot.com.

Closures: The public should be aware that the fire situation is fluid and that new closures could occur with little advance warning.  The Forest Service requests that people respect any road closure signs or barricades so the firefighters can safely perform their jobs.  There are currently more than 60 roads or trails closed for public safety including Monument Trail #484 and Andrews Creek #504. Complete closure details and maps are available at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5409/.

Evacuation Alert Level: Mazama, Rendezvous and Lost River are under a Level 1 evacuation. A Level 1 notifies residents and visitors to be aware of the danger that may exist in their areas. Monitor emergency services information for updates. The Okanogan County alert system will provide automated alerts to the public.
