Northwest Fire Potential Summary
An upper level ridge over the Pacific Northwest is the main weather feature this weekend. The airmass over the region will continue to be hot, dry, and unstable with a thermal trough west of the Cascades. Fire danger indices are headed upward toward record levels as a result of all these factors.
Lightning is not expected to be much of a factor until next week. Even so, any new fire ignitions will stand a good risk of becoming large fires due to the combination of contributing environmental factors mentioned above. Growth of existing wildfire incidents is also elevated correspondingly with the potential for extreme fire behavior.
