Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Northeast winds today and a thermal trough will bring hot dry and unstable conditions on the west side. Smoke will be heavy and may keep temperatures down a bit and moderate fire behavior slightly. The thermal trough shifts inland Tuesday into Wednesday bringing unstable conditions across the Cascades and a shift from east winds to onshore flow. The onshore flow will bring a cooling trend and gusty winds through the Cascade gaps.
The threat of thunderstorms increases in the Southern Oregon Cascades starting Tuesday and continues to expand across the region through the remainder of the week. By the end of the week, moisture arriving from the south will bring cooler temperatures along with the threat of mountain showers.
