Firefighters have made good progress on the suppression of the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 Fires. The containment on these fires is now at 69%. Crews have established fire lines around both fires and are widening and strengthening those lines by burning out unburned fuel close to the line and mopping-up any remaining hot spots within 100-feet of the control line. Some resources are being released to other fires or to return to their home units for much-needed rest.
Weather and Smoke: This Labor Day weekend will see hotter and drier weather across southwestern Oregon. This will mean more intense burning in many of the fires in the region creating more smoke. The high-pressure ridge will hold much of that smoke in the valleys. Saturday, temperatures on the Staley Fire could approach 90 degrees unless heavy smoke from other fires shades the area. Current and predicted smoke conditions can be found at: http://oregonsmoke.blogspot.com/

Fire Behavior Advisory: The National Interagency Coordination Center has issued an advisory for all wildland firefighters in Southwestern Oregon. The advisory stresses the potential for extreme fire behavior with high potential for crown fires and rapid spread due to the extremely dry fuel conditions. See https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5512/39581/ .
Area and Road Closures: A Forest Closure Order is still in effect for areas around the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 Fires for firefighter and public safety. Road and trail closure points are signed. The Willamette National Forest website at http://go.usa.gov/xRnz7 has details and current conditions.
