Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Warm and dry conditions, along with west to southwest winds, will prevail over Eastern Washington today.
Throughout the rest of the region, a cold front will bring increasing humidity, clouds and chances for showers today. There is a potential for isolated lightning, mainly over southern and eastern Oregon this afternoon into tonight. The lightning will bring a potential for new ignitions and moderate initial attack. The frontal passage will bring a transition to a gusty northwest winds late today.
The gusty northwest winds will persist Wednesday and into Thursday, with the strongest winds speeds in the northern Cascades and Okanogan Valley. Although the arriving air mass will be much cooler, humidity values will remain on the low side for areas east of the Cascades. This combination of dry, gusty wind Tonight through Thursday will promote an increase in fire activity, mainly for eastern Washington.
