9/13/2017 Uno Peak Fire Update

Yesterday: Hot, dry conditions contributed to active fire behavior. Most of the activity was on the west side of the fire at the top of Lone Fir Creek and in upper Safety Harbor drainage, away from town.

The containment line along Nelson Butte down to Lake Chelan has been completed. Crews strengthened and improved the dozer and hand lines down the ridge to the lake. Crews also worked to secure the line on the upper northeast side of the fire near South Navarre campground.

The structure protection group tested and finalized their work and assessed other preparation needs. The Canoe Creek area to the west and the Llama Ranch area to the southeast remain under a Level 1 evacuation (get ready).

Today: As crews complete their work down Nelson Butte Ridge, they will work to bring hose down to the lake. Work above South Navarre campground is continuing with cold trailing/checking for hot spots along the fire’s edge.

The Silver State Hotshot crew arrived yesterday to help with possible burn out operations, and snag hazards. Crews will continue to fall snags near South Navarre campground in preparation for possible burn out operations, if weather allows. If burning occurs, plans are in place to staff a night shift to patrol and monitor the burned portion of the line. Road improvements are expected to be completed by next weekend.

Temperatures are projected to begin a dramatic cool down today through Friday. Another warm and dry trend looks likely Saturday and Sunday. Rain is forecasted overnight Sunday.
