Northwest Fire Potential Summary
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity will bring near critical fire weather conditions to portions of the region through the weekend. However, the threat for new ignitions and potential for significant large fires will hold in the low to normal categories during this time.
Seasonal temperatures, gusty north winds and low humidity will allow for another day of increased fire behavior today. These conditions, with higher gusts near 30 mph, will linger over eastern Oregon Friday.
High pressure will return Friday and Saturday, resulting in sunny skies and near normal temperatures. Winds will generally be light for areas west of the Cascades. The exception will be over the western Columbia River Gorge where winds will transition to moderate east winds Friday night and Saturday. The low humidity values will hold on over the southeast Oregon through the weekend.
Temperatures will warm as winds will increase out of the south ahead of the approaching front on Sunday. The strongest winds will occur across southern Oregon where humidity will also be lowest.
Another dip in temperatures, along with rain, possibly heavy at times, arrives Sunday afternoon along the coast, spreading inland overnight. Scattered showers will be common across the region Monday and Tuesday.
