Northwest Fire Potential Summary
A large upper ridge will be the dominant weather feature right through the Labor Day weekend. The air mass over the region will be hot and dry with easterly winds over much of the region from the Cascade Crest westward to the coast. Lighter winds are likely inland.
The fire potential pattern favors a minimal number of ignitions yet the risk of new large fires is elevated because of extreme high fire danger, easterly winds, and dry weather. The combination of fire danger and weather makes flare-ups for ongoing incidents the most likely threat through the weekend. New ignitions pose a lesser threat until lightning becomes a factor next week.
No reduction in fire danger from rain is in sight.
