Fire Potential Summary
Moderation of burning
conditions is expected west of the Cascades today and then east of the Cascades
as the weather pattern shifts to promote a cooling and moistening trend through
the end of the work week. The thermal trough which has worsened conditions with
east winds, hot temperature, low humidity, and instability will move east of
the Cascades. Fire danger will fall as the temporary cooling pattern sets in.
General winds will begin to shift more to westerly as this weather pattern
shifts and the atmosphere will stabilize.
Some wet thunderstorms are
possible over Oregon and Washington Wednesday through Friday. Despite showers
with the storms, lightning will ignite some starts and with conditions as dry
as they are, there is elevated potential for new large fires because of the
lightning. See your local fire weather forecast for the details on upcoming
lightning. Fortunately, the downtrend in fire danger will work in the favor of
initial attack firefighters.
