7/10/2015 Wolverine Fire Update AM

Start Date: June 29, 2015
Size: Approximately 314 acres
Percent Contained: 0%
Cause: Lightning
Personnel Assigned: Approximately 117
Vegetation: Timber
Growth Potential: Medium

Notice: Hikers and backpackers; be aware trails leading into Holden Village are temporarily closed while Holden Village is at a Level 2 evacuation notification. If you are planning a visit to the Holden area, please check Inciweb http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4354/ prior to your departure or call the Chelan Ranger District (509) 682-4900 for specific information.

Potential thunderstorms are moving into the area this afternoon bringing with it the potential for dry lightning strikes. Fire managers continue to monitor for additional new fire starts and will use crews assigned to the Wolverine Fire to assist the Chelan District with initial attack should more lightning ignitions occur.

Thursday brought increased humidity to the Wolverine Fire, and fire activity was light. Fuel reduction and fireline construction along Holden Road (FR 8301) to milepost 5 is essentially complete. Today crews are conducting final cleanup of the lines and roadsides. They staged fire hose and pumps along the road, in the event that the fire should move south and threaten the road. Crews are continuing to clear fuel and install sprinkler systems around structures at Lucerne, Lightning Creek and Riddle Creek. Fire resistant wrap has been delivered to these sites, and will be used to wrap structures if needed.

A Level 2 evacuation notice for Holden Village and Lucerne is still in effect. This notice means “be ready”. Although Holden itself is not threatened, there is concern that its single road access could be compromised if the fire should move to the south.

Refrigerator Harbor Campground at Lucerne remains open to the public as does the Pacific Crest Trail, which passes west of Holden.
Resources assigned to the incident include two20-person hotshot crews and two20-person initial attack crews, three helicopters and four boats.
