Current Situation:
The Carpenter Road Fire is estimated at 65,068 acres and 70% containment.
Firefighters were able to successfully access the containment lines of the Carpenter Road Fire and continue working this morning after Mother Nature’s assistance with almost an inch of rain over most of the fire area. The fire had not moved from its foot print of the past several days. This afternoon, several crews of firefighters on a portion of the east side of the fire had to disengage from the fire lines after multiple rounds of gun fire were discharged near the fire area. The number one objective of every fire management organization is to provide for firefighter and public safety during wildland fire suppression efforts. Firefighters will not re-engage if their safety is in question. Please be cautious during any activities near the firefighters and suppression efforts.
Firefighters are concentrating on completing direct containment line as close to the fire’s edge as possible, engaging in repair activities (pulling in dozer berms and constructing water bars) on indirect and contingency lines, and preparing any equipment for back haul to the Incident Command Post. Equipment and resources no longer needed for line construction or repair efforts are being demobilized to return home or assist in other suppression efforts on other fires.
A spike camp for approximately 150 people has been established in Valley at the District #4 Fire Station. The spike camp provides for increased firefighter efficiency and reduces drive times by two hours.
The Springdale-Hunters Road is open. Motorists should drive cautiously due to slick roads and fire apparatus. The Hunters Campground in the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area is open. Recreationists will see occasional water tenders near the lake and drafting water at the boat ramp for fire suppression support.

A warming and drying trend is expected to begin by Wednesday which means higher temperatures and lower relative humidity. Light fuels will begin to dry out quickly and become more susceptible to carry fire so please follow local fire restrictions and remain mindful of fire prevention. For up to date information on the Industrial Fire Protection Level (IFPL), please check the Washington Department of Natural Resources website at http://www.dnr.wa.gov/ifpl
Children will be headed back to class as local schools open on Tuesday morning. Please slow down, watch for children and school buses along with firefighting traffic on the highways.
